Reticulated Giraffe Born at Virginia Safari Park

Natural Bridge, VA - Virginia Safari Park is pleased to announce the birth of Lipton, an endangered Reticulated Giraffe, on August 11, 2021.

Born to experienced mom Lexi, Lipton is thriving and meeting all benchmarks. A newborn giraffe stands between 5 and 6 feet at the top of its head and can weigh between 140 and up to 200 pounds.

Reticulated Giraffe are listed as Endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, and human conflict. It is estimated that over 30% of wild Giraffe populations have been lost since the 1990s. The Virginia Safari Park proudly supports the Giraffe Conservation Foundation to help save wild Giraffe populations. “Our animal ambassadors play an important role in giving a voice to their wild counterparts by raising awareness,” says Sarah Friedel, Park Director.
